Jesus is the Light of the World


Our Pastor Bishop James A. Johnson, Jr. is a native of the state of Kentucky. He was born July 29, 1940 the elder son of the late James A. Johnson, Sr. and Fannie Butler Johnson. He has a brother William Johnson and two sisters, Marian Joyce Johnson, and Rev. Patricia A. Johnson. He has one son, James A. Johnson, III, living in Atlanta, GA. He has been married twice: 1. to the late Susie-Bernice Lue Johnson, and currently to the Rev. Bessie M. Proctor Johnson in which they are separated.

Bishop Johnson received his formal education at Ohio State University, The University of Pennsylvania, Columbia University Teachers College, and The Union Theological Seminary. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Education, Masters degrees in Education and Psychology and The Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology.

Bishop Johnson has been a active member of the Family of God since he was 10 years old. He preached his trial sermon in 1951 at the age of 11 years old at the World Peace Institution for Healing in Columbus, Ohio. At the age of 12 he joined Triumph the Dominion of God under the late Dr. James Francis Jones, internationally know as Prophet Jones. While at the University of Penn. He met Prophet Willie Wynn and joined the Universal Kingdom of God as its assistant pastor. He started his own church Deliverance Temple in 1963 and had then the largest Spiritual Church in Philadelphia.

Three severe heart attacks deeply curtailed his ministry for almost 8 years. It was during this time that he went went to the Divine Science College in Denver, Colorado and received a miraculous healing of the mind and body. It was at this time that he began to teach in religious schools and seminaries.

In 1977 he came to New York to continue his religious education work, at the Science of Living Institute at United Church.

In 1978 God spoke to Bishop Johnson, and said Victory is your next church and here we are 20 blessed years, 895 Fulton Street Brooklyn, New York is not where we are going, but it is a comfortable stop. Pray much for this is the Lord's work.

In 1988 when Bishop Jerome Kirton, went home to be with the Lord, Bishop James A. Johnson, Jr., became the pastor of the Temple of Truth Church of Christ in Brooklyn, New York. This brought Bishop Johnson into the Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ.

In Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Bishop Johnson is Parliamentarian to the Board of Directors and Dean of Christian Education. In this year of our Lord 2000, Bishop Johnson is the appointed Chairman of the Board of Bishops and this year elected Second Vice President of Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ.
