Rev. Ganaway is a native of St. Louis, Missouri, and has two sisters, Olivia Williams and Audrey Simmons, one brother Nathan O. Crookshank, who are also from St. Louis, Missouri.

She is a graduate of the Vashon High School, and attended the Stowe Teacher's college and is a graduate of the DePaul School of Nursing.

She and her late husband, Lois Lee "Lucky" Ganaway Sr., have four sons, Lois Lee Ganaway Jr., Dwight Earl Ganaway, Charles Arthur Ganaway Sr., and Nathan Raymond Ganaway Sr.

Rev. Ganaway attended the Nash Prayer Band Mission, under the late Rev. Laura Nash, in St. Louis, Missouri.

She later moved to Kansas City, and worked as a staff nurse and head nurse for the Veterans Administration hospital.

Rev. Ganaway serves the Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ, under pastor, Bishop James D. Tindall, Sr., as the assistant pastor, and former pastor of the Children's church.

She also serves on the board of directors of Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc., and on committee of the Maternal and Child Health Coalition in Kansas City, Missouri.
