Levinia Young was born on January 22, 1922 in Boyton, Oklahoma, to the union of Olia Dotson and Oscar Cowlings. She moved to Kansas City at an early age and was educated in the Kansas City School District. She was a retired worker. Levinia was united in marriage to Joseph Alvin Young on November 26, 1955, who preceded her in death on December 11, 1989. She accepted Christ and was a devoted member of the Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ for over thirty years; serving faithfully on the Trustee Board, as Vice President and the Adult and Inspirational Choirs. She was also overseer of the Community Center, coordinating meals for the church and the Annual Thanksgiving Gift baskets. Levinia will be missed from all of these activities but most of all for her melodious voice in the choir and her solo renditions. She leaves to cherish her memories: four sisters and brothers-in-law, Geneva and O.J. Sapp, Kansas City, KS; lzella and Raymond Hill, Chicago, IL; Vesteen Thomas, Chicago, IL; Lula M. Wilburn, Los Angeles, CA; a devoted friend, Betty Thompson and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
