Words of Reflection
"I lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh
from the Lord, which made heaven and'earth. " Psalm 121:1-2
Barbara Elizabeth Graham Nutter, the second of five children bom to Alton Kirk Graham,
Sr. and Eliza Elizabeth Irvin Graham, was bom October 12, 1926 in Independence,
Missouri and was called to rest January 27, 2004. Her parents, brother Alton Kirk
Graham, Jr. and two brothers, who died at birth, preceded her in death.
She began her education at Young School in Independence and completed her education
at Lincoln High School in Kansas City.
Barbara loved sports from football, where she would be tackled and thrown in the
air like a rag doll, to baseball one of the best catcher/second basemen around
when she played with the "Brown Bombers" Women's Traveling Baseball Team, to
playing marbles. As she got older, she realized her playing days were over
and just enjoyed them from the side lines.
Barbara was married twice, Leroy McCloud and Benny Nutter. No children were born
to either union. Even though the Lord did not bless her with children of her own,
she still was a loving, caring mother to many others.
Barbara was a hallelujah praising soul, filled with the Holy Ghost and was not
ashamed to praise the Lord wherever she was. At an early age, she joined
Second Baptist Church in Independence where she was a member of the Usher
Board. Barbara moved to Kansas City and because of her love of being in the
service of the Lord, her first quest was to find a new church home in that
area. She had joined several different churches before the Lord led her to
Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ, Reverend James Tindall, Pastor.
There she was a faithful member who supported all the ministries and served
on the Usher Board for many years with great love and joy. Life changes
caused her to move back to Independence and she rejoined Second Baptist
Church, Reverend Samuel Nero, Pastor and continued to serve and praise
the Lord until He called her home.
Barbara a devoted Sister, Aunt and Friend leaves to cherish her memory;
stepmother, Hattie G. Graham; two sisters, Thelma M. Graham Copridge and Marsha
G. Graham both of Independence, MO; sister-in-law, Dolores C. Smith Graham of
Grandview, MO; nine nieces, six nephews, a host of other relatives, friends
and church families whom all she loved very much.
