Life Reflections

Isabel Ellen McNeil fondly known by family and friends as Sister was the second child born to the union of Sullivan and Lillian Baylis on September 20, 1927 in Kansas City, Missouri where she resided all of her life. She departed her earthly body August 8, 2004 at home.

She received her formal education in the Kansas City School District.

She worked for St. Lukes Hospital as a Nurses Assistant until her health failed and she became a blessing to others by taking care of their children. She instilled in her children and grandchildren her love of God and family. We will miss her wisdom, kindness and gentle spirit.

She was united in matrimony to Richard McDonald to this union one son, Lester McDonald was born. She was later united in matrimony to Lonnie McNeil and to this union four daughters Karen Grigsby, Diane Bush, Denise Ramsey and Stacey West, and one son Lonnie (Ronnie) McNeil.

She was baptized at Metropolitan Spiritual Church at an early age. Isabel was a member of Universal Spiritual Church of Christ under the Pastoral-ship of Rev. Calvin E. Phillips. She was an active member. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and a member of the Mothers Board. She faithfully encouraged and took her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to church with her. After the dissolution of Universal Spiritual Church of Christ she transferred her membership to Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ under the Pastoral-ship of Bishop James D. Tindall.

Her Mother, Father and brothers Henry, Eugene and Charles Baylis preceded her in death.

Sister will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her home going: Her husband, Lonnie McNeil; two sons, Lester McDonald of Topeka, Kansas and Lonnie McNeil of St. Louis, Missouri; Four daughters, Karen Grigsby of the home, Diane Bust of Norfold, Virginia, Denise Ramsey and Stacey West of Kansas City, Missouri; her sister, Marguerite Gillespie of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Seventeen grandchildren and Twenty-Eight Great Grandchildren, One aunt, Naomi Saunders of Topeka, Kansas; a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces, nephews and friends.
