Obituary

Aaron E. Elmore, Sr. was born October 15, 1934 in Kansas City, Kansas to the union of Saint Wilbum Elmore and Jessie Mae Taylor Elmore. He departed this life on January 26, 2009. He was the youngest, and only son, of three children from this union.

He was preceded in death by father. Saint Wilbum Elmore, mother, Jessie Mae Taylor Elmore, sisters, Geraldine Elmore, and Wilma Elmore, and stepson, Thomas A. Winston, III.

Aaron was educated in the Kansas City, Kansas public school system, and graduated from Sumner High School in 1952. His father told him he could not afford to send him to college and that he should join the Air Force. Taking his father's advice, Aaron served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Years later, he graduated from Park College with a Masters degree in Sociology.

He was a clean, classy, stylish dresser who loved hats, clothes and shoes. He always smelled good! Aaron enjoyed reading, studying politics, and history, particularly black history. He was heavily active in the community. He was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Aaron accepted Christ in his life at an early age. He was a member of Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ, Kansas City, Missouri under the leadership of Bishop James D. Tindall, Sr.

Aaron leaves to mourn: sons, Aaron E. Elmore, Jr. (Carolyn), Aaron Newman; daughter, Cynthia D. Elmore; stepdaughters, Tanya D. Winston Lewis, and Sharon R. Brown (Steven); 13 grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
