Words of Reflection

On Sunday October 25, 1998, God spoke and Robert Allen, Jr. answer. This mighty warrior laid down his sword and shield, after a lengthy battle for the past three years. During this period, 'Robert displayed the courage of a champion. He endured much, fought a good fight and finished the course.

Robert Lee Allen, Jr. was born in Topeka, Kansas on November 29, 1924 to Robert Allen, Sr. and Velma P. Allen, whom both preceded him in death, along with his brothers, Lucky S. Allen and John T. Allen.

Robert, known by many as "Bobby" received his education in Kansas City, Missouri. He attended Attucks and W. W. Yates Elementary School, and R. T. Coles Vocational High School.

Completing high School at the age of 18, Bobby enlisted in the U. S. Army. He served in various Campaigns in Naples, Foogia, Rome, Arno, Central Europe, and North Apennines. He was an outstanding serviceman and received four bronze Stars for the campaigns he served. He earned the 'Good conduct Medal' and was entitled to wear the European African Middle Eastern theatre Campaign Ribbon and three overseas service bars. Bobby served his country with great distinction and received an Honorable Discharge.

Bobby was an assembly line worker at the Ford Motor Company, Claycomo, Missouri and retired after thirty years of service. He had many interest and hobbies: Member of VFW Post 2069, a skilled mechanic with an exceptional love of cars, an enthusiastic motorcyclist, self acclaimed and named musician (Trumpet Player), and labeled himself 'the King of the Bones."

Bobby was indeed humorous, but a worm-hearted caring person, with a dynamic and loving smile. He enjoyed, taking his family out to dine at upscale restaurants. He was especially faithful in visiting the sick. Most importantly Bobby, accepted Jesus as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at the Metropolitan Spiritual Church of Christ Kansas City, Missouri, by Bishop William F. Taylor. As a young man he served faithful as an Altar boy, as an. adult he continued, to serve in the work of the Lord. Bobby took pride in serving as an usher and served until his health would not allow him.

Forever cherishing the precious and fond memories of Bobby and his dynamic loving smile: two sons, Samuel Hill and his wife, (U. S. Army} and Jerome Standifer of Kansas City, MO; three very special aunts who are true expressions of Gods love and promise, Naomi Saunders (age 91), Lucille Scott {age 81), and Safronia Baker (age 103); sisters, Louise Crowley of 'Milwaukee, Wl, Vivian McKinley-Jones, Xenia Allen, Duronda (Charles) Pierce, all of Kansas City, MO, Lela Vanderberg and Lauretha Hogan, both of Detroit, MI; and a. host of other relatives, friends, and the Metropolitan spiritual church of Christ family. We will always cherish his memories and emulate his admirable traits.
