The office of Acolyte is to inspire young men and women to dedicate and commit their lives to the service of Christ by giving of their time, talent and money for the up building of God’s kingdom. Acolytes help the pastor, help with the altar as well as the church. The word Acolyte comes from the Greek word akolouthos which means “Attendant”. Acolytes are willing at all times to assist the Pastor and the Minister in charge of all services. Above all Acolytes are servants of God. Acolytes wear robes to symbolize the putting on the whole armour of God. There have always been Acolytes at Metropolitan. The first board functioned under the direction of Bishop Taylor and Elder Boswell. The first altar boys were John and Willis Mosley. One of the first altar girls was Charline Boswell Jordan. Past Acolyte Board members and overseers are Mother Emma Edwards, Janie Jamison, Marietta Walker, Rev. Otto Houston, Beulah Goodwin, Maxine Winn, and Mary Payne. The current Acolyte Board president is Nicole Collins.
